Insurance and Billing Policies

Because insurance issues can sometimes be complex, we feel that it is important that patients take the step of finding out the extent of their coverage. Our office is more than happy to help guide you through this complex maze of information.

The following guidelines must be kept in mind when considering insurance coverage:

• It is important that your insurance company provides coverage for the specific services being rendered. For example, a plan may cover some services provided by Naturopathic Doctors, but not others. We have encountered numerous plans that do not cover immunizations, well-child check-ups, and other forms of preventative services rendered by NDs.
• Most insurance companies provide the exact same provider booklet to all of their insured. Therefore, it is important to read it carefully to ensure that you have purchased a plan that covers all of the providers listed. This is not always the case.
• If a service is provided that an insurance plan does not cover, it then ultimately becomes the patient's responsibility. We are not able to bill for office visits that are not covered or for items from the medicinary, so we ask that you please take care of these fees at the time of service. In addition, if payment for covered services is not received in our office within 60 days of billing your insurance company, all fees need to be paid in full by you, and it will then become your responsibility to collect reimbursement. Please feel free to encourage your insurance company to issue a prompt payment before 60 days has passed.
• Lastly, it is important to know that insurance companies have the right to review claims for proper reimbursement for up to three years after the claim is made. This means that reimbursements that were made in the past (for what was communicated by the insurance company as a covered diagnosis or service) can be reversed. Should this happen, payment for the services become the responsibility of the patient.

Worker's Compensation:

The patient is responsible for all charges not covered under worker's compensation guidelines.
